If youve defragmented your hard drive and are still seeing subpar performance, you may need to fix disk errors on your hard drive. Hard disk errors are typically caused by power outages, hardware failures, poor system maintenance, viruses, or human error. To fix disk errors, you can use the Chkdsk tool found in Windows operating systems. Chkdsk (Chkdsk.exe) is a command-line tool that creates and displays a status report for the disk by checking volumes for problems. The tool then lists and corrects errors on the disk, such as bad sectors, lost clusters, cross-linked files, and directory errors. Heres how to use Chkdsk.

How to Use Chkdsk to Fix Hard Disk Errors

  1. Click My Computer then click once on the hard disk that you want to check, which will highlight it and allow you to select the drive.
  2. Right-click on the drive and a window will appear.
  3. Click Properties, then Tools from the choices presented.
  4. Click Check Now which can be found under Error-checking. A dialog box that shows the Check Disk Options is displayed.
  5. Use one of the following procedures:
    • Option 1 – To run Chkdsk in read-only mode, click Start.
    • Option 2 – To repair errors without scanning the volume for bad sectors, select the Automatically fix file system errors check box, then click Start.
    • Option 3 – To repair errors, locate bad sectors, and recover readable information, select the Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors checkbox, then click Start.

Note on all versions of Windows prior to Windows 8: If one or more files are open on the hard disk that you want to fix, you will receive the following message:

"The disk check could not be performed because the disk check utility needs exclusive access to some Windows files on the disk. These files can be accessed by restarting Windows. Do you want to schedule the disk check to occur the next time you restart the computer?"

If the above text appears, click "Yes" to schedule the disk check, then restart your computer to begin the disk check.

Overview of Script Errors

Script errors are fairly common and occur on web pages and desktop applications. There is little a user can do to correct a script error because the problem is within the coding of the web page or program. Only a programmer familiar with the computer language used to create the web page or program has the ability to go into the code, find the problem, and correct it.How to fix computer errors

Users can report the errors so that the programmers are aware of it and try to fix the problem. Script errors can occur in any computer language. Basically, a script error is the result of the programmer forgetting a critical piece of code like a semi-colon or bracket. A misspelled word in the program’s code can also result in a script error.

Having certain services disable in the operating system can also cause script errors. Active X and Java are two services that users may have disabled to improve the performance of one application but are required to interpret the script of another application the user needs. Enabling these types of services can resolve many script errors.

What Problems are Associated with Script Errors?

The most common script error a user will experience when surfing the Internet is, “A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly.” The same error message can be experienced in any browser and the message will indicate the browser currently in use.

The user can either continue using the page while it runs slowly or close the page and try another web site or attempt to visit the same page with a different browser. Some browsers will be able to function normally despite certain script errors.

A common error with desktop applications is, “Script error; Library not registered.” There is a second line in the error that identifies the exact .dll file that is causing the error. The user can uninstall and reinstall the program in order to have the .dll file properly registered to the program.

Another option is to manually register the .dll file using Window’s Registry Editor. If the user is not familiar with the Registry Editor, they should not attempt registering the .dll file this way because mistakes can cause the computer to crash become very unstable.

Script Errors: Symptom of Other Computer Issues?

Usually, if you are experiencing slow PC symptoms in addition to Script Errors issues, your PC could benefit from registry cleaning, repair, and optimization.

Frequent crashes, Windows startups that take forever, slow keyboard response, and other PC performance symptoms could be a sign that your Windows registry needs attention.

Because the exact cause of issues related to Script Errors can be hard to pinpoint, I recommended that you first ensure that your PC is clean, optimized, and free of any major registry issues.

I recommend downloading a trusted registry cleaner and optimizer such as WinThruster or CCleaner. I prefer WinThruster because it is a top-rated program developed by a Microsoft Gold Certified Partner (Solvusoft), who works closely with Microsoft to create software solutions optimized for the Windows operating system.

WinThruster utilizes advanced patent-pending cleaning algorithms to seek and destroy the problems behind your sluggish PC – sometimes restoring it to speeds you haven’t experienced since you first turned it on. I’ve tried many other registry cleaners, and nothing compares to the results I’ve experienced using WinThruster.

Give WinThruster a try to see if it helps troubleshoot the source of your PC problems. By using WinThruster on regular basis, you’ll no longer have to worry about a bloated Windows registry, because it will always be fully cleaned and optimized.

I was having the exact same problem.

I tried rebooting in Safe Mode and uninstalling programs so I could isolate the computer error, but that didn’t work. Then I attempted to modify the registry but decided I didn’t want to risk messing up the computer even more. Finally I found this website and was able to fix the problem by downloading the repair tool. Wish I would have done that first!

I’m not very knowledgeable about computers and I’m disabled so it’s not easy for me to bring my computer in to the store to get repaired. This software was great because it fixed everything for me. Hopefully my computer won’t have any other issues but if it does now I know how to fix it.

It is unusual if you haven’t encountered error messages in your entire lifetime of working with your PC. The error messages mostly vary from each other and have individual reasons of their own.

Some of the error messages are common and can be easily fixed if taken certain measures while there are some error messages which are severe and require the attention of an expert in Windows OS. Here we will discuss the five most frequently occurred error messages that the users are sick of seeing.

1.Blue Screen of Death (BSOD): The infamous “Blue screen of Death” is the most commonly appeared ‘error message’ among Windows users. This occurs when the OS meets a ‘Stop error’. The root cause of BSOD is faulty hardware. It is also caused due to issues with low-level software running in the Windows kernel. The ‘Stop error’ causes the OS to stop working and eventually crash. If we take time to read the text that appears during BSOD, we come across “a problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer”. The fourth line will display something like “The problem seems to be caused by….” something in upper case and separated by underscores will be written. Some of the systems have been configured in such a way such that when a BSOD appears, the PC automatically restarts. You have to boot the computer in ‘Safe mode’ in order to fix the issue. After you are done booting the system in safe mode, follow the given steps.

  • Go to settings.
  • Select ‘Update and Recovery’ and click on ‘Recovery’.
  • Click on ‘Restart now’ under the Advanced Setup.
  • After your PC have restarted, Tap on ‘Troubleshoot’ on the ‘Choose an option screen’.
  • Got to ‘Advanced options’.
  • Tap on ‘Startup settings’.
  • Restart your PC again.
  • Choose Safe mode from Startup settings.
  • Login through the Administrator’s account.
  • Perform a clean boot on your OS.

Apart from the above procedure, scanning for malware, reinstalling windows, installing updated drivers and prior checking for faulty drivers can help avoid encountering BSOD’S.

Take note: BSOD causes data loss. The programs don’t get saved and become inaccessible. They need to save their data so a blue screen of death or other type of error won’t result in data loss. Here is a way you can restore lost data from your partitions.

2. Missing DLL files: ‘Missing DLL file’ is one annoying error message. The error messages may be of the following types:

  • The .dll file is missing
  • .dll file not found
  • This application failed to start, an important component .dll is missing. Reinstalling the application may fix the error

The most obvious and primary reason is deletion of DLL files. Other possible reasons are ‘Overwriting the DLL file’, Malware infection, Corrupted or crashed DLL file, Hardware malfunction etc. It also happens when you have removed a program and due to incompletely removed malware. For the missing DLL file lost or damaged by virus, the first step is to remove the virus with reputed antivirus tool .If the message occurs due to deletion or corruption of the files, remove the virus from your system using an anti-virus tool. If the missing DLL file happens to be a non-Windows file, download a new copy from a reliable DLL online directory. The website from which is being downloaded should be safe and genuine. Luckily, if you know which DLL file is deleted, you can restore missing DLL file by downloading it. Reinstalling the program and replacing any missing or damaged program files with their original version will also do the deed. Sometimes, when a program is uninstalled, some of the shared DLL files needed by other programs on your system may also get removed. It is better to run a registry scan to ensure that the DLL error is not caused due to an incorrect DLL entry in the registry.

3.Applications That Won’t Install: “Unable to install application” ! Looks familiar right? This occurs when the hard drive in your system does not have enough space. All you need to do is get some free space by deleting unwanted files and folders. It could also be that your OS is missing on some major updates, the applications are failing to get installed. Scan, Clean and Optimize your Hard Drive and your problem will be solved.

4.Applications Run Slowly: Your system is painstakingly slow and it is giving you a really hard time.Your computer may have problems that involve your operating system or an application. The operating system might be missing some vital updates or the system doesn’t have enough hard drive space. If you don’t have enough hard drive space, you can scan, clean and optimize your hard drive.

5.Abnormal Applications Behavior: Problems involving applications often act strange and leave you baffled. The application was working fine until recently. For example, your Word document is not showing the top margin of your document. It still says it’s there, and when you print it, there’s not a problem. You just can’t see it on your monitor. Restarting your computer can also be one solution. You can research about the type of problem you’re experiencing on the internet or just consult the user manual.

You will find a way 🙂
