HOW TO FOLD LADIES’ UNDERWEAR
It’s fair to say that underwear can be tricky to fold, especially certain types of ladies’ underwear (we’re looking at you thongs!). But with this failsafe, three-step technique, you’ll be folding your smalls like a boss in no time. The great thing about this method is that it can be used across all sorts of ladies’ underwear, from your everyday shorts and briefs to those pesky aforementioned thongs. Lay your underwear waistband up. Place your underwear on a flat surface, like your bed or a countertop, with the waistband facing upwards. Use your hands to iron out any wrinkles.

Fold the crotch up to the waistband. Finally, fold the crotch up to the top of the waistband. Smooth them over one last time and now you’ll have a perfectly neat pair of pants to pack away!
HOW TO FOLD MEN’S UNDERWEAR
You could be forgiven for thinking that men’s underwear would be a whole lot easier to fold than women’s. But that’s not necessarily the case. Because boxers are a law unto themselves, with more fabric to fold and a bit more effort needed as a result. But don’t fret, because once you’ve mastered this quick and easy folding technique, you’ll be folding your boxer shorts like a certified pants-folding wizard in no time!
Lay your boxers waistband up. Put your boxers or trunks on a flat surface, like your bed or a countertop, with the waistband facing up. Flatten out any creases with your hands.
Fold your boxers in half. Now, fold your boxers in half by folding the right leg over the left leg. You’ll know when you’ve done this right because both of the outer seams will line up perfectly.
Spin 180 and fold in half again. Next up, spin the boxers 180 degrees, so the waistband is on the left and the leg holes are on the right. Then fold them in half, top to bottom, to make a long, thin rectangle.
Fold the boxers into thirds. For the final flourish, fold your boxers into thirds. Bring the leg-hole end to the middle, then once more to the waistband. They’re now ready to go in the drawer!

We’ve all been there: 15 minutes before it’s time to head out the door, and you’re still rooting around in your top dresser drawer in hot pursuit of your favorite pair of undies that have never failed you on a big job interview or a first date.
Having a, shall we say, disheveled underwear drawer is a common issue. After all, how do you keep a garment that is skimpy on the surface looking tidy and organized?
In this guide, we’ll teach you how to fold underwear in order to best organize these clothing intimates. With these tips and tricks, you’ll optimize your drawer space and ultimately save time when making your morning selection.
The Best Way To Fold Underwear
When it comes to the organization of your underwear drawer, nothing should be left to the imagination. Ideally, you should be able to see the full range of options.
Below, we’ve nailed down 3 methods to keep your underwear drawer neat.
This first folding method works best for different types of underwear for women like briefs, bikinis, and boyshorts, and is most suitable for those whose home storage set-up gives them a bit more room to work with:
- Step 1 – Flip your underwear, so the bum side faces you, then peel the crotch of the underwear up, so it meets flush with the waistband. You should wind up with a shape that resembles a shallow boat or canoe.
- Step 2 – Bring in each side of the undies towards the midline (it doesn’t matter if it is a g string vs thong) . They should “kiss” in the middle, forming a slightly elongated square shape.
- Step 3 – Continue with a few more (3-4) pairs of undies. When you have a few tiny squares on your hands, stack them vertically. Rather than storing them in your dresser drawer, one on top of the other, flip them sideways so you can see each pair from a bird’s eye view of your drawer.
If you’re trying to save even more drawer space, you’ll want to go with the jelly roll folding method. The bonus of rolling rather than folding your undies is that it helps to keep the wrinkles at bay. Here’s how to pull this folding technique off:
- Step 1 – To get the tightest roll possible, you’ll want to do a little preliminary folding first. Draw the right side of your panties in towards the center, just past where the opposite leg hole begins. Repeat with the left side.
- Step 2 – You should have another small square shape on your hands, but the crotch of the underwear should still be visible. Beginning with the waistband, roll towards your body so that the crotch area is the last piece to wind up into your “jelly roll.”
- Step 3 – The size of your collection should dictate how you position your undies in the drawer. If your underwear collection could rival Dita von Teese, you’ll save the most space by storing each pair vertically, so the spiral is visible. If you’ve kept your collection trim, you should be able to see it in full by simply laying each roll in the drawer.
It’s not in the cards for every laundry day, but if you’ve got the time, you can show your undies some extra love by ironing before you store. Not only will it cut back on wrinkles, making the folding process easier, but it can also help to kill any bacteria lingering after a wash cycle. 1 Find out more tips and tricks on how to wash underwear.
If you’re partial to boxers or briefs, either of the above methods should work for guys looking to take control of their underwear drawer.
For those who opt for other types of underwear for men with more fabric—like classic relaxed boxers, or a longer boxer brief—you’ll want to rely on the following method:
- Step 1 – Because men’s underwear tends to carry a little more bulk, start by laying them on a flat surface crotch-side up and smoothing out any wrinkles—especially if you’ve let them air dry, which is a great way to increase underwear’s longevity. 2
- Step 2 – Once you’ve gotten them smoothed out, start by folding the first leg in, just where the second leg begins. Repeat with the other side. You should end up with a slim rectangle with three folded quadrants.
- Step 3 – Fold the waistband halfway down towards the legs. When folding up the bottom half, insert the legs into the waistband to keep your little bundle in place. This will save space and keep everything secure and mess-proof if you ever succumb to your urge to rummage through the top drawer.

Question: when was the last time you did an underwear drawer refresh? For us at least, it’s been awhile! If you’re hankering for a project while in quarantine, here’s a handy step-by-step guide to reorganizing that oft forgotten drawer, inspired by none other than Marie Kondo.
Lay flat. Fold crotch up to meet the waistband. Fold each side over the middle.
Fold briefs in half, hot dog style. Fold crotch in so the briefs looks like one long rectangle. Fold in half, bottom to waistband.
Lay cami down so front faces down. Fold in thirds toward the middle. Fold in half, then fold in half again to make a square.
Flip the bralette so the front is facing down. Fold the straps down to meet the band, then fold each side to the middle, one on top of the other.
Lay one sock on top of the other. Fold the toes to meet the heels, then fold once more to meet the top.
Put it all together!
Take any deep box (shoeboxes work great!) and rather than stacking everything, line them up vertically. Place the box in the drawer and bask in the endless joy it sparks.
Happy organizing! And remember, you can always shop our full underwear collection here.

Ever wondered what’s the best way to fold underwear?
Surprisingly, you’re not alone. Hundreds of people type ‘how to fold underwear’ into Google every month – searching for the perfect way to organise their pants and save space. So, as a leading brand for boxers, briefs and thongs, we thought it was about time we answered this burning question.
It’s all about the KonMari Method TM
Of course, there are numerous ways to fold underwear – from rolling them up tightly to folding them loosely down the middle. But our favourite method, by far, is the KonMari TM method.
This is a simple technique, first introduced by the bestselling author and tidying expert, Marie Kondo. Kondo believes the key to folding underwear is to transform each pair of pants into the shape of a rectangle or square. That way, rather than being haphazardly thrown in the drawer, they can be stood upright and side-by-side.
Not only does the KonMari TM method prevent creases, it allows you to see all of your underwear at the same time. Getting dressed in the morning will never have been so easy. And the best bit? It can be achieved in just five simple steps.
The KonMari TM Folding Method
Step 1: Place the underwear on a flat surface
It doesn’t matter whether you’re folding men’s boxers, women’s hipster briefs or something a little skimpier. First things first, you should place the underwear down on a flat surface (such as the bed, sofa or dressing table) – with the front of the garment facing up towards you.
At this point, it’s also a good idea to smooth out any wrinkles in the fabric by hand.
Step 2: Fold the underwear in half
Lift the bottom edge of the crotch until it reaches the top of the waistband. This creates a horizontal fold in the middle of the garment. Once again, smooth the fabric down with your hand.
Step 3: Flip in the left side
Next, fold the left side of the underwear, until it reaches the innermost edge of the right leg hole.
Step 4: Fold over the right side
Repeat step three, but on the other side of the garment – folding in the right side to cover the left. At this point, the underwear should now be folded into thirds.
One way to check you’re on the right track is to imagine a business letter that has been folded to put inside a business-sized envelope.
Step 5: Complete the rectangle
Lastly, you should bring the crotch up towards the waistband for a second time, making one final horizontal fold in the garment and creating the desired rectangular (or square) shape.
Put KonMari TM folding to the test
There you have it; the best way to fold underwear. Well, at least it is in our opinion! Now it’s time to put it to the test.

How To Fold Underwear Properly: 5 Efficient Methods
Arranging your underwear will accomplish two important goals: saving time and space and allowing you to locate your go-to favorites and match sets quickly. Depending on the form and style of your undies, this step-by-step tutorial will help you answer the questions “How to fold a underwear?” and “How to fold underwear to save space?”
The Method of Rolling
1. Lie faceup with your underpants vertical and your waist on the right side
Put your slacks down, facing up, and rotate 90 degrees to place the waistband on the side properly.
2. Crease the bottom of the shirt in half vertically to fall in line with the waistband
Grasp the crotch and bend the underwear in half, so the crotch reaches the waistband, then level and smooth the top with your hand.
3. Crease in half horizontally, away from you, in step three.
We suggest folding the underpants in half before wrapping them to create a firm roll.
4. Form a tight cylinder out of it
Start rolling firmly from the side closest to you and keep going until you have a tight, perfectly coiled cylinder.
5. Place rolls next to each other in a stack
To make it easier to retrieve your rolled underwear, stack them side by side in a single stack. Put the folded underpants in a single line for optimum storage, then place a second layer tidily on top of the first.
The Square Method
1. Place your panties on a level surface, facing up
This approach is similar to the roll technique in that you place the underwear face-up and level but with the crotch side facing you.
2. Bring the base of the bag up to meet the top
Crease the undies over so that the waistband top touches the crotch’s bottom.
3. Bring the right side of the paper to the center
4. Bring the left side of the triangle to the center
5. Bend the wrapped square in half by flipping it over
Flip the underwear over and bend in half, maintaining the tucked-in square shape clean.
The Egg Rolling Technique
1. Lie down face up with the waistline close by
Begin with the waistband nearest to you and smooth it out to flatten it.
2. Crease three times, shifting away from you in tiny, identical folds
Start with the waistband and work your way up to the crotch, making three narrow and evenly sized folds. Let about an inch of crotch unfold at the top.
3. Flip the cloth over if you have almost an inch of cloth left
Turn the underwear over so that the backside is facing up and the crotch tip is facing you.
4. Bring each side of the paper to the middle
Then, crease all sides toward the center, with one side covering the other.
5. Bend its bottom up, put your thumbs in the pocket you’ve created, and turn it inside out
Bend the leftover crotch material up and into the opening made on the back by the three-fold done before — this should replicate a pocket. You may have to do the crotch-fold again, based on the style and amount of material.
Place your thumbs in the pouch and press the cloth from the back into the front opening with your middle fingers. Pull the outside borders inward with your thumbs at the same time. The undergarment should now be rolled up, compacted, and securely fastened.
6. It took a little longer, but then you can chuck it in a closet
Spending more time on this technique has the advantage of keeping underpants firmly wrapped until you untie the folds, allowing you to become less exact with how you organize them in your underpants cabinet.
The Thong Approach
1. Flip the thong downwards, with the waistband facing away from you
Place your thong underwear on its side, with the waistband facing away from you. To level, smooth the surface.
2. Bend the bottom of the triangle towards the top of the triangle
Pull up the bottom corner of the crotch and fill the surface of the waistband with it.
3. Bring one edge of the paper to the center
Enfold the undergarment in half and move one edge of the waistband to the middle.
4. Repeat on the opposite side
Cover the opposite side and crease it in.
Step 5: Stack wrapped underwear on top of one another in step 5
Put it in an orderly stack with the rest of your folded thongs.
The Boxer Briefs Technique
Step 1: Lie flat with the waistband on the other side of your body
Place the boxer shorts on their backs, with the waistband facing you. To level, simply smooth.
Step 2: Enfold In Half
Locate the center of the garment and bend one side over another, aligning up the surface seams.
Step 3: Rectangle and Rotate
Turn the boxer undergarment 180 degrees so that the leg holes are on one side as well as the waistband is on the other. Bend the top part of the garment down till it reaches the base to make a long rectangle.
Step 4: Crease the paper in thirds and stack it
Take the crotch part and crease it up toward the waistband to form a square. Put the underwear neatly packed side by side on a rack or in a drawer in the wardrobe.

Additionally, putting separators or drawer containers in a proper position will help set out nice, specialized places for easier storage, regardless of the undie packaging method you pick.

Pen Roll Method
This is the best method for sleek or thin underwear, mostly female underwear. You need a pen for this method. All you have to do is take your underwear, fold the bottom or crotch to the middle, fold both the sides of the underwear inwards vertically. Next, place a pen where you fold the crotch so that the pen’s cap stays towards the outwards and start rolling the underwear around the pen. (4)Grab one end of sock as an anchor and pull tight with the other end.
(5)Roll towards the open end of sock. With a beer can grip pick up the roll of socks with your dominate hand. Insert thumb of dominate hand into the sock opening.
(6)Pull elastic backwards on itself and around roll of sock. Adjust if necessary.
Step 3: Underwear!
Ladies basic principle is laid out. You can adjust if necessary.
Males, use what ever your mom buys you. I have included 3 popular American styles, briefs, boxers, and boxer-briefs. I didn’t include a man-thong because I’m not a stripper or a body builder. (although I have the body to do both).
(1) Lay the underwear flat. (2) Fold the underwear band about 2 inches under. If your underwear is so big it can double as a parachute in wartime, then adjust measurments as needed. (3) Fold the left side so that it lines up with the seam on front.(4) Fold the right side so that it lines up with the left edge. (5) Like with the socks hold the top tight and roll from bottom up pulling tight as you go up. (6) Grasp the roll with a beer can grip with your thumb inside the elastic. (7) Roll the elastic backwards over the roll, moving your hand as you go. Adjust if necessary to achieve a tight roll.
Step 4: T-Shirts!
This is used for undershirts. It will leave small wrinkles depending on the fabric. If your in Junior High and still wear shirts that your mom bought at K-mart with fart jokes on them then this step is not for you. Your shirt might end up a little wrinkled.
(1) Grab the shirt by the upper seam that runs atop the shoulder on each side of the neck. Gently shake and lay the shirt flat on a flat surface.
(2) Smooth out any wrinkles and straighten the bottom seam (the part you tuck in your pants).
(3) Fold the bottom seam up and line up with the bottom of the armpits.
(4) Fold the seam back down to the new bottom line.
(5) Unfold this 1 time. You should end up with the bottom hem folded underneath the shirt about 2 inches.
(6) Grasp the top corner of the shirt and the bottom corner and lift and fold toward the center. The top corner will be touching the tag. The Sleeve should fold on the OUTSIDE of the shirt. (7) Repeat for the other side.
(8) Fold each side in half again.
(9) Grab the top of the shirt and grab the bottom. Rotate the shirt 180 so that the neck hole is pointing towards you.
(10) Grab the new top and pull tightly as you roll from bottom up. Like with the underwear grasp the roll with a beer can grip but with your 4 fingers inside the hem.
(11) Hold tightly and with the other hand flip the hem backwards while pushing the roll inside the fold with your thumb.
(12) Work the roll inside the hem and adjust as necessary.
Step 5: Finished!
There you have it. The rolls are small enough to be placed inside shoes, boots and also its easy to pack because you just have to grab 1 roll of socks, 1 underwear roll and 1 t-shirt for each day of travel.
